PM wants 2019 to be ASEAN-India Year of Tourism

Stressing upon common cultural links between ASEAN nations and India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed that 2019 be declared “ASEAN-India Year of Tourism”. The PM also mentioned that the Buddhist Tourism circuit could be an important part of this to attract tourists and pilgrims from the region.

Addressing the plenary session of the ASEAN-India commemorative summit, Modi said, “Our shared voyage goes back thousands of years. It is India’s privilege to host the ASEAN leaders.”

Prime Minister also said that trade between ASEAN nations and India has grown 25 times in 25 years and investments are robust and growing. He also announced India’s decision to offer 1000 fellowships to ASEAN students at India’s IITs and setting up of digital villages in each of the ASEAN nations.
