UPDATE: Alaska tsunami warnings stand CANCELLED

All tsunami watches and warnings have been CANCELLED associated with the M7.9 earthquake in Alaska.

A major earthquake with a magnitude of 8.2 struck 170 miles off the coast of Alaska in the wee hours of Tuesday, prompting a tsunami warning along the coastline. The earthquake prompted a tsunami warning for parts of Alaska and Canada as well as a tsunami watch for the entire US west coast.

The quake hit 157 miles south east of Kodiak at about 9.30 am GMT on Tuesday (12.30 am local time). According to US Geological Survey it was at a depth of 6.2 miles (10 km).

People living on the coast of Alaska were sent tsunami warnings asking them to “go to high ground or move inland.”
