Embrace the world of fashion in Africa
South and Fashion don’t seem quite suiting to many. But, the fact is that the industry has grown leaps and bounds in the African continent to that level where Cape Town can be even called the Paris of Africa. There’s a magnificent opportunity for the South African tourism sector also to grow in tandem with the fashion industry.
Africa has so far been promoted to the travel fraternity by showcasing its cuisine, wildlife and art and culture. However, the continent is now can be promoted as a lifestyle destination with a handful of fashion events happening in its major destinations.
In line with the growth in international tourists, this is the perfect time for SA to woo its domestic travellers to come and experience the culture through the much-famed South Africa Fashion Week (SAFW), which has been silently, yet powerfully, been bringing in people from different parts of the world for the past 19 years. A host of celebrities from Beyonce to Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise have walked the ramps of the fashion week.
According to Airports Company South Africa, Cape Town International Airport registered 127,309 international arrivals for December 2017, an 11.5 per cent increase from December 2016. With the SAFW SS18 scheduled to be held from April 10 to 14, 2018, the expectations are high. The SAFW AW19 collections are also scheduled between 23 and 27 October ,2018.
