UAE Blocks skype

UAE banned the use of free Internet calling application Skype. UAE telecom providers Etisalat and Du confirmed the news reported by some media. The access to Skype is blocked since it is providing unlicensed Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service.  Etisalat said, this falls under the classification of prohibited contents as per the UAE Regulatory Framework.

Skype, an audio and video calling application, is widely used all over UAE. Foreigners can now switch to alternate means, such as Botim and C’Me to get in touch with family and friends in their home country.
