Best winter destinations in India

Enjoying New Year in India would be a good idea. It is high time that you plan your January trip soon. Here’s where you can go this January for a memorable vacation in India.

Gulmarg
Gulmarg is the winter wonderland. It is the best winter sport destination in India. With winter, Skiing season is on. Tobogganing, snowboarding and heli-skiing etc. also take place on the slope. Maharani Temple, St. Mary Church, Gulmarg Gondola are the other attractions. The town is accessible from Srinagar by road.

Shillong
Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, is one of the most visited spots in the North east region of India. Hills waterfalls and streams are the attractions of Shillong. Shillong is well connected by roads with all major northeastern states. Elephant falls, Lady hydari park, Wards Lake are some of the tourist sites in and around the city.


The Rann of Kutch
Season starts in November and ends in February in The Rann of Kutch. Annual Rann Utsav takes place during this time. Rann of Kutch, western part of Gujarat, is the biggest salt marsh in India. There are other attractions nearby like the wildlife sanctuary and beach. Stay in luxury tents and enjoy performances by local artists and Kutchi cuisine.


The Chadar Trek
Best place to visit in January for adventure lovers. One of the best trekking options in India. Trekking route passes over frozen Zanskar River . The 6 day chadar trek  takes place during the latter part of January till end of February or sometimes first week of March, depending on the weather.


Darjeeling
Darjeeling hill town is located at an altitude of 6,710ft in the state of West Bengal. You can enjoy ride on Darjeeling Himalayan railway. View of Kanchenjunga will be a wonderful experience. Buddhist monasteries, historical churches, temples, rolling tea estates on mountain slopes, museums, art galleries, parks & gardens, waterfalls, cable car ride are other attractions here. The nearest airport is Bagdogra and the nearest major railway junction is New Jalpaiguri. It takes about 3 hours to reach Darjeeling from both these locations by car.
