First Lady of Iceland appointed as Special Ambassador for Tourism

Muscat: Eliza Jean Reid, First Lady of Iceland, has been appointed as Special Ambassador for Tourism and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). The second UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture, an official event of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017, held in Muscat, witnessed the new appointment.

The programme aims at advocating for the contribution of sustainable tourism´s to the 17 SDGs and encouraging the full integration of tourism and the SDGs in national, regional and global agendas. Eliza Jean Reid, after taking charge, underlined the relevance of sustainable tourism as a measure to build peace. She also pointed that sustainable tourism will help in reducing inequality and increase tolerance.
