DGCA extends suspension of International flights by one more month

India’s aviation safety regulator DGCA on Thursday decided to extend the suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger flights till 28 February 2021.

The DGCA circular also said that the suspension does not affect the operation of international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by it.

The circular issued by DGCA also said “However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case-to-case basis”

International scheduled flights, however, may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case-to-case basis, the circular added.

The suspension of international commercial passenger flights from/to India, which has been in place since 23 March in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, has been extended on a couple of occasions and was to expire on 31 January 2021.

To meet the requirements, special international flights are being operated under the Vande Bharat Mission since May and under bilateral “air bubble” arrangements with selected countries since July.

India has thus formed air bubble pacts with 24 countries including the US, the UK, the UAE, Kenya, Bhutan, and France. Special international flights can be operated by their airlines between their territories, under the air bubble pact between two countries.
