Meghalaya to open doors for domestic tourists from 21 DEC

It’s happy news from the North Eastern side of India. After almost nine months of close down, Meghalaya (The “Abode of Clouds”) is going to reopen to tourists from outside the state. Meghalaya has finally decided to allow outstation travellers from 21 December, however with some terms and conditions.

The announcement came from Conrad Kongkal Sangma, on his official twitter handle which read #Meghalaya reopens its #Tourism from 21st December, 2020. The Home of Clouds looks forward to welcoming you,”

Travel would be in a structured manner keeping in mind the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Travellers to Meghalaya would need to download the Meghtourism app to register and complete the formalities, including a mandatory upload of a government photo ID.

On the Megh Tourism app, visitors need to provide a complete travel itinerary of their proposed visit and share the booking confirmations with hotels, guest houses, home stays for a minimum of 2 nights from the date of arrival in Meghalaya.

Those travellers, who wish to stay with their families or friends must share their host’s full address and contact details and a complete itinerary. This is mandatory requirement for the generation of an e-invite.

A print out of the e-invite needs to be presented at the entry point along with a Covid-19 negative certificate.
