Agra Metro Project inaugurated by PM Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 7th DEC inaugurated the construction of the Agra metro project via videoconferencing. Present at the occasion were Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

PM while inaugurating the ₹8,379.62-crore project, expressed hope that tourism will rebound after the pandemic situation improves.

The Agra Metro project comprises two corridors with a total length of 29.4-km and connects major tourist attractions such as the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Sikandra with railway stations and bus stands. The project will not only benefit the 26 lakh population in Agra, it will also cater to over 60 lakh tourists who visit Agra every year.

The project is expected to be completed in 5 years’ time and is expected to provide an environment-friendly mass rapid transit system to Agra.

The Prime minister said that the work is also being done on the multi-modal connectivity Infrastructure Master Plan and added that efforts are on to attract investment from all over the world to improve India’s infrastructure situation. The PM also announced that since 2014, 450 km of the metro line has been operationalized, compared to 225 km previously. He also added that the work on the 1,000 km long metro lines is progressing at a rapid pace. This work is happening in 27 cities in the country.
