International Waitress Meet at Kovalam on March 13

In an effort to empower women and create an awareness about how women can succeed in hospitality industry, The Uday Samudra Groupl, Kovalam, in association with the major hospitality organizations, conduct the first ever International Waitress Race on the occasion of the International Women’s Week. It was announced by the organizers at a press meet in Thiruvananthapuram. The Race will be held on March 13, 2019 at Vellar Kovalam. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran will flag off the race an 4 pm. The winners will receive cash awards and certificates

The race is expected to encourage women and help them in understanding their worth and that they also stand a place among men in this society. It also aims at exhibiting the strength and athletic abilities of women.

The event is supported by various organizations like India Tourism, Kerala Tourism, SKHF, APT, ATTOI, IATO, SIHRA and other leading hospitality leaders and travel and tour operators. Major hotels from India, Sri Lanka and Maldives will take part in the waitresses’ race

Sivasankar, Finace Director; Mohanan, Group Vice President, Finance and Vivek Nampoothiri, Assistant General Manager of UDS, talked to the media in the press meet.

“This is part of the social responsibility initiatives of Udai Samudra, which has conducted a number of innovative programmes in recent years. Beach cleaning, Under water conference, Blue Ramp – an event organized for the differently abled children to experience the sea- were some of the activities to be mentioned,” said Sivasankar.

Vivek Nampoothiri said the idea of the Race was initiated by Raja Gopaal Iyer, CEO of UDS Group.

“The race is a 700 meter run – rather a brisk walk with filled trays in their hands. It is a balancing task, while covering the stipulated distance,” said Vivek Nampoothiri.

The organizers are expecting to have around 150-200 participants in the race.
