Tourists in Mysore to have double-decker buses for sight seeing

Following the success of the ‘Open Bus’ rides introduced during Dasara celebrations, Karnataka state government has now decided to put double-decker buses in Mysuru.

A double-decker bus from the fleet of BMTC in Bengaluru was procured during the Dasara festivities to promote tourism, and take tourists around the city for sight-seeing. This initiative was well-received. This was perhaps the driving force behind the announcement, the stakeholders say.

The bus service will be implemented with the fund received under Mahatma Gandhi City Development Plan announced by the Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. The CM has allocated ₹5 crore for launching six double-decker buses for sight-seeing in the ‘City of Palaces’. Four of the buses will be for Mysore and two for Hampi.

“We are planning to on rolling the buses during Dasara Celebrations and are hoping for a positive response from the visitors,” said Kumar Pushkar, KSTDC Managing Director.

Stakeholedrs in the tourism industry of Mysore have expressed delight on the decision of the CM to introduce double-decker buses to the heritage city.

“We welcome the government’s proposal to have double-decker to wade through the city’s streets. I am sure the visitors will prefer watching the many heritage structures from a higher view point that buses provide than from inside cars,” said BS Prashanth, President of Mysore Travel Association.
