Ghana is planning to have a 40 week long domestic tourism campaign to boost the tourism sector. It was announced by Catherine Afeku, Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture.

The campaign named ‘Do Ghana’ is an initiative by culture tourism ambassador and culture advocate PaJohn Bentsifi Dadson and will focus boosting the domestic travel market and encouraging local people explore Ghana’s beautiful landscapes and scenery.

The campaign will be officially launched in February 2019 and will run for 40 consecutive weeks. A social media campaign has been created and will be in collaboration with Bentsifi, Graphic Communications, GHOne TV and Joy FM.

Efforts will kick off with a WangoWango road trip, an experiential tour of the country including local chefs preparing dishes along the way. The trips will be shot and aired as a reality TV show.

Residents, who participate with the campaign on social media using the hash tag #YouShouldBeHere, will get the opportunity to participate in the trips which begin in February.

The ministry is trying a destination management approach to marketing tourism in a sustainable way. The tourism department will work with other strategic tourism organizations like the Tourism Research and Advocacy Center (TRAC) and VoyagesAfriq.com to achieve the objective.
