Dudhsagar waterfalls is now open to public

The authorities have officially opened the Dudhsagar waterfalls, situated deep within the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary. The new season commenced on Tuesday with 1,127 tourists recorded on day one.

The all-terrain vehicles ferrying passengers to and fro needs prior permission from the forest department. This season, almost 431 such vehicles have been registered with the state wildlife board. The forest department has restricted the number of trips by the all-terrain vehicles to 170 per day during weekdays and 225 per day on weekends. Daily tourists footfalls are restricted to 1190 and 1575 on weekdays and weekends respectively.

The forest department charges Rs 50 per person as entry fee. October to May is the best season to see the four-tier spectacle.

The majestic cascade of white water, gushing over the steep, nearly vertical face of the mountain from a spectacular height of 1017 ft; is both breath taking and awe inspiring. The name ‘Dudhsagar’ literally translates to ‘sea of milk’ which many believe is an allusion to the white spray and foam that the great waterfall creates as it cascades into the waters of the lake. The Dudhsagar waterfall measures an impressive 310m (1017ft) in height and about 100 ft in width. The waterfall splits into three streams as it pours over the near-vertical cliff face, thus forming a truly magnificent sight. This water fall is also known as Tambdi Surla to some of the local peoples.
