Air Asia and GoAir to operate from Trivandrum

Happy news for people of Trivandrum!. Budget airlines, AirAsia and GoAir to start operations from Trivandrum. The airlines have expressed interest in starting domestic service from Trivandrum International Airport.

Air Asia will start services to Bengaluru, while Go Air will have daily flights to Mumbai. Currently, Air Asia do not have service from Trivandrum. However, they had operated from Trivandrum during the floods, when Kochi International Airport was temporary closed. Go Air is the 5th largest airline operating in India.

Meanwhile, joint venture of Singapore Airline and Tata Sons, Vistara Airlines, has also expressed interest to have flights to Chennai and Delhi from Trivandrum. However, they did not obtain permission so far.

Airlines think low cost domestic services would attract more passengers and thus increase the total revenue. When more companies come forward, the competition will increase, which may lead to further reductions in air fares.

Recently, the official airline of Saudi Arabia has started operation from Trivandrum. When GoAir and Air Asia also come to the field, the competition will be tightened, which would be beneficial to the passengers.

Currently Air Asia is providing tickets at Rs 849 for domestic flights and Rs 1,999 for international flights. Trivandrum passengers may also avail these offers, once they start operation from there.  Air Asia is said to be trying for flights to Malaysia and Kulalampur . GoAir also offer tickets at Rs 999 for domestic flights.

Currently, 18 airlines are having operation from Trivandrum airport. It handles almost 120 services daily to the middle east and to the European countries. Apart from that almost all domestic airlines operate from Trivandrum.

The airport can accommodate 20 flights at a time, including C category flights like Airbus 320. Four Jumbo flights like Airbus  A300, Boing 747 can park at the airport at a time. The airport have the three major fuel companies like Indian Oil Corporation, Bharath Petrolium and Hindustan Petrolium in the vicinity of airport. All these lure more airlines to come forward to operate from Trivandrum.
