Portugal’s tourism revenue shows increase in first half of 2018

Portugal’s tourism industry is in a positive swing as per the statistics revealed by the department of tourism. As per the records Portugal’s tourism revenues shows an increase of 13.9 per cent during the first six months of year compared with the same period last year. The total revenue from tourism was 6.9 billion euros during this period.

March recorded the highest increase in tourism revenue with 20.3 per cent.  May has 19.5 per cent and February shows 16.1 per cent increase, during the first half of the year.

“Tourist revenues in Portugal are growing 5 times more than the rate of growth in the number of visitors, which shows tourist spending in the country is increasing,” said Secretary of State for Tourism Ana Mendes Godinho in a statement.

In the first half of the year, the number of visitors grew by 2.6 per cent, making it 9.6 million euros and overnight stays rose 0.5 per cent to 25.4 million.

“As per the figures, tourism industry in the country will continue to grow throughout the year. Furthermore, we should try to attract tourists who spend more in the country to increase our revenue,” she added.

Boom in the tourism industry in Portugal’s has made the industry the largest employment provider and one of the main contributors to the country’s economy.
