Andhra Pradesh government ventures to redesign the concept of tourism in the state. The government is planning to explore the potential of industrial tourism, other than site seeing and adventures.  Sri City, the integrated business city in Chittoor and Nellore districts and the Satish Dhawan Space Center at Sriharikota are some of the places they have identified as industrial tourism spots.

The objective behind the new idea is to generate interest in students and young entrepreneurs and help them enrich their awareness levels on industrial processes. At the same time, it will become a revenue earner along with other sources.

Chandrababu Naidu , Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh exhorted to the tourism officials to explore the possibilities of Industrial tourism in the state. Accordingly, Mukesh Kumar Meena, the Secretary, Department of Tourism, Language and Culture, has initiated the programme.

“As a first step, students of the Narayana Educational Institutions in Tirupati and Guduru were allowed to visit the Sri City recently,” said Meena

These visits could be of immense use for the youth as they can directly witness what is happening in each industrial zones.

Similarly, students of the Adishankara Engineering College in Guduru had the chance to visit the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

Meena said the main industries across the State such as the Visakhapatnam steel plant, Visakhapatnam port trust, Vijayawada thermal power station, Rajahmundry paper mill and a few other units would be brought under Industrial Tourism.

Initially, the Tourism Department itself implements the programme. However, the government plan to hand over operations to trained tour operators, once it is streamlined.
