Union Ministry to make promo video to generate more domestic tourists

Uttarakhand

Union ministry is planning to produce promotional videos to attract Indians, who are roaming around the world. Tourism Minister KJ Alphons urges Indian globetrotters to come back to India and explore the unseen areas of our great country.

Last year, through an innovative idea – Parayatan Parv (tourism festival), the ministry has tried to woo the countrymen to spend their holidays in India instead of going abroad. State governments as well as the union ministries had participated in the event.

“Indians are travelling all around the world, while we want them to travel across the length and breadth of our country, to explore and experience it.” said the minister. He was addressing the media in a press meeting at Delhi.

“We are in the process of making a promo video showing why Indians should explore India and another one on why NRIs should come back to India. Bharatbala is making the videos,” added the minister.

Earlier the ministry made promos targeting foreign tourists, focused on yoga, ayurveda, Indian cuisines, culture and heritage, cruise tourism, eco and adventure tourism.

As per the statistics from the tourism sector, India will have around 50 million outbound tourists by 2020; the ministry wants some of them to be converted to be domestic tourists.
