Tiruchi gets Rs 45.23 crore for tourism development

The tourism development of Rock Fort temple and 5 other spots in Tiruchi under the Smart City proposals has got clearance by the high power committee. The committee, headed by Finance Secretary K Shanmugam, met in Chennai accepted the proposal drafted by the Tiruchirappalli Smart City Limited. A sum of Rs 45.23 crore will be spent for the tourism development plan in the city.

Main Guard Gate, Rock Fort temple, Rock Fort temple tank (Teppakulam), War Memorial, Purathana Park, and Municipal Chathiram are the other tourist spots, which have been selected for providing facelift under the Smart City proposal.

A sum of Rs 11.36 would be spent for the development of the Rock Fort Temple. The major development works around the temple includes construction of a rest house, two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking facilities, improvement of roads around the temple provision of flood light and signage. In the meantime, Teppakulam would also get a facelift by complete illumination. The long pending demand of tourists and pilgrims of introducing boating facilities would be fulfilled. There are also plans to restructure the roads around the tank. Plans are afoot to introduce a sound and light show, highlighting the historical background of Tiruchi city and Rock Fort. The overall development of the destination is estimated at Rs 15.20 crore.

Rs 8.78 crore would be earmarked for creating landscape, children park and theme park at Purathana park. Main Guard Gate would be illuminated so as to showcase it as a standalone monument in the city. Provision would be made to provide signage in addition to the protection of the monument.
