A Miniature Govardhan Hill, Mathura

Govardhan, one of the key pilgrimage centers in the Mathura District of Uttar Pradesh, will be developed as a top-notch tourism destination, as informed by Union Minister of State for Tourism K J Alphons.

The minister was reviewing the feasibility of six proposals sent by the Uttar Pradesh government.  He declared that the Center government has sanctioned Rs 50 crore as the first installment to develop Govardhan as one of the “finest tourism spots”.

As per the Hindu mythology, Govardhana Hill located in Govardhan, is believed to be lifted by Lord Krishna on his little finger and made it an umbrella to save his villagers of Mathura from fierce rain and thunderstorm for seven long days. Hence it is considered a sacred place and attracts thousands of Krishna devotees and other tourists every year.

“Rs 25.75 crore would be spent on a multi-level parking facility with a capacity of 300 vehicles. Also, Rs 3 crore would be spent on revamping ‘Sur Kuti’ in Parasauli.” “A light and sound system will be developed at ‘Kusum Sarovar’ at a cost of Rs 8 crore and Rs 3 crore will be spent on renovation of ‘Mansi Ganga’,” Alphons added.
