Ministry wants to replicate Kunnamthanam model across India: Alphons

At Kerala’s Kunnamthanam village in Pathanamthitta district, at least one member of every family is yoga practitioner. The Central Ministry is planning to launch a similar initiative to turn at least 500 villages in the country into “Sampoorna Yoga Grams” (complete yoga village). Similar to that of Kunnamthanam village, at least a member of each family will follow the discipline.

The AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy) Ministry will announce the launch of the “Sampoorna Yoga Grams” plan as a part of the Government’s ambitious Ayushman Bharat Scheme at the three-day International Yoga Festival, which is scheduled to be held from March 21 at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi.

Reacting to the decision, Tourism Minister K J Alphons has thanked the AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik for choosing Kunnamthanam as the role model village. “Thank you dear Shri @shripadynaik ji, MoS (I/C) @moayush #AYUSH for choosing “#Kunnamthanam”village from #, Kerala, as the only “role model village” for “Sampoorna Yoga Grams” in the country. Ministry wants to replicate the Kunnamthanam model across India,” tweeted Alphons.

As a part of the Sampoorna Yoga Grams’ initiative, every village will have a research extension unit to keep a periodic check on the health parametres. Around 30,000 participants and eminent yoga masters from across the country as well as 30 nations will participate in the International Yoga Festival, which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Minister of State for PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh and presided by AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik on March 21.
