TRAK needs major amendments before implementing : ATTOI

Leading Tourism Trade association, ATTOI has requested the Hon’ble Minister of State for Tourism, Government of Kerala, to make necessary amendments to the proposed Tourism Regulatory Act Kerala (TRAK), before implementation.

Vinod C.S President of ATTOI felt that TRAK proposed to be introduced and implemented by the Kerala Tourism Department, would only serve to set back rather than promote the tourism industry in Kerala. However, the Act seeks to amend the Kerala Tourism Registration and Regulation Act to address the grievances of the Kerala Tourism and to re-empower the industry in case of any misconduct and to amend the Act in such a way as to provide a comprehensive registration system for all tourism activities and to provide a working guideline to those in the field. Vinod added that “ATTOI has submitted the suggestions in writing to the Government. The Minister had assured that a meeting of all the delegates in the field of tourism would be convened at the earliest to discuss the matter further before implementation”.

Kerala Tourism Registration and Regulation Act 2020 was formulated to provide for the establishment of a fair tourism culture and regulation of the tourism sector, to curb illegal activities in Tourism sector and ensure quality tourism-based services in an efficient and transparent manner and to protect the interest of tourists and consumers of the tourism sector in Kerala.
It also clearly mentions that No person shall, in the tourist area, carry on the business of a tour operator, water sports operator, adventure sports operator, spice plantation or of providing temporary huts for the purpose of accommodation, unless he is registered in accordance with the provisions of this Act.
