Uttarakhand govt gives subsidies to purchase tourist vehicles

The Uttarakhand government is trying to generate more employment opportunities for the youth of the state, by starting an online registration facility under the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Tourism Self-Employment Scheme.

Under the scheme, the beneficiary can purchase buses/electric buses to operate on state routes and avail 50% subsidy or up to Rs 15 lakhs for the purchase of the bus.

This self-employment scheme has been provided to the people of Uttarakhand state and the buses will be operated only on the designated routes of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. Along with this, it will also be mandatory that all such routes will start from Uttarakhand. To promote tourism in the state of Uttarakhand, on both sides of the buses, it will be mandatory to have the logo of the tourism department.

In case of purchase of vehicles other than buses under Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Swarojgar Yojana, a 25% subsidy will be applicable. There is also a provision to give subsidies up to a maximum of Rs 10 lakhs, if the vehicle is not a bus.

Dilip Jawalkar, secretary tourism, said that “with the implementation of an online application system, transparency will be increased and time will be saved and monitoring of the scheme can be done effectively”. Jawalkar also said that this will provide the facility for tourists to travel on the travel route and will provide better transport.

Applicants desirous of availing benefits under scheme will no longer be required to visit the department’s office. The registrations of both the above-mentioned schemes can be done online. Any Uttarakhand resident who wants to take advantage of this scheme can make their registration online by visiting the given link (http://vcsgscheme.uk.gov.in). This system will also allow real-time monitoring of the applications for both the schemes.
