Cambodia has imposed one of the toughest entry requirements of any country in the world, by imposing a hefty amount as Covid-19 fees.

In its latest bulletin, the Foreign Office of Cambodia (FCO) has stated that foreign travellers must pay a $3,000 deposit as “COVID-19 service charges” at the airport upon their arrival. This “coronavirus deposit” can be paid in cash or by credit card. The FCO further said that after deductions have been made for services, the remaining deposit will be returned. But those deductions may be costly, especially if another passenger on the same flight happens to test positive for coronavirus.

In addition, all foreign travellers will be required to show proof of travel insurance that includes medical coverage of “not less than” $50,000.

For those interested in finer details, here they are. According to a Fox News report, all arriving travellers will be transported to a testing facility at a cost of $5, where they will be administered tests at a cost of $100. Afterward, they will be required to quarantine at a designated hotel or quarantine centre for at least one night at a cost $30 per night, with an additional $30 taken out for meals. But that’s if no one on their plane tests positive for coronavirus.

In the event that someone does, the entirety of the passengers on board will be required to quarantine for 14 days at designated quarantine centres or hotels, at the daily rates for lodging and meals ($60 per day, totalling $840). That’s in addition to transport to the testing centre ($5), testing ($100), laundry ($15 per day), the cost of the quarantine centre’s health staffers ($6 per day) and security ($3) per day, Fox News says.

If a traveller arrives and tests positive, costs skyrocket. Medical treatment and hospital stays will be deducted ($180 per day) in addition to emergency fees and consultations, the costs of which are determined by the public hospitals.

This can exhaust the deposit limit, which is why a traveller must carry insurance that has a minimum of $50,000 medical cover.

And in case the traveller passes away, the Foreign Office said that the cremation service charge is $1,500.
