West Bengal plans to appoint Tourism Consultants

West Bengal Tourism Department is planning to appoint a consultant to provide detailed report on how to develop tourism infrastructure in the state.

As per sources, Chief Minister Mamta Banarjee wanted to showcase West Bengal as one of the world class tourism destination. The government also envisages generation of employment opportunities in the tourism sector.

As per an official from the tourism department, the state has received record number of visitors- both domestic and foreign, in recent years, which has contributed to the GDP of the state in a significant manner.

The proposed consulting agency will consist of environment experts, engineers and architects. The agency will conduct elaborate study and submit proposal to the state as to what are the things to be done to develop infrastructure in the tourism sector, at specific locations. They have to consider the tourism value, demand, potential, job opportunities, transport and logistics etc., while preparing the proposal.

The tourism department is also considering appointing a market research consultant to provide information on the tourism arrival in the state during the past 5 years. The consult should provide detailed report on the tourist arrivals in various locations of the state.
