Bengaluru going cycle-friendly; dedicated tracks to come on 100km of roads

Over 100 kilometres of city roads in Bengaluru will have dedicated cycle tracks soon. The first phase of the project, which covers 46 km stretch, will be ready in an year’s time. The phase 1 includes four roads in Indiranagar and a portion of the Outer Ring Road.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), have floated bids for the construction of cycle tracks at a cost of Rs 64 crore.

The 12 kn ORR stretch between K R Puram and Bellandur, 7 km stretch between Marathahalli and Hoodi via Brookefield, 2 km stretch between Ulsoor lake and Swami Vivekananda Metro station, 100 ft road, Indiranagar double road will be having dedicated cycle tracks.

The project is expected to encourage the people to use public transport. It is in this view that the roads connected to metro stations have been selected. The tracks will be 1.5 metres wide and will be at the level of footpaths at certain places and at road level in other areas. The tracks will be built in such a way that no two wheeler would be able to encroach it.

Rajajinagar, Banashankari, Jayanagar, Magadi Road, Tumakuru road, Mysuru road etc will be developed during the phase 2 of the project.
