MTB Kerala 2018 concludes in Wayanad

The fifth edition of International Mountain Cycling Contest has concluded at Wayanad in Kerala on December 8. MTB Kerala-2018 has concluded at the Priyadarshini Tea Estate in Mananthavady.

The event was organized by Kerala Tourism, in association with Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society and Wayanad District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), is supported by Cycling Federation of India.

Apart from contestants from India, cyclists from 11 foreign countries have also participated in the event. The categories include: International Cross Country Competition (Men), National Cross Country Competition (Men), and National Cross Country Competition (Women).

“Fifth edition of the MTB has been the best and the grandest so far. Iran contestants bagged the first two prizes in the International category.  Thailand got the third place. In the women category, which was introduced for the first time, a first year commerce student from Maharashtra won the first prize,” said Umesh, Sub-collector of Wayanad.

“It is a proud moment for us, as we could provide an excellent cycle track in Kerala and could conduct an event in line with the international standards. Another thing to be highlighted is the local public participation in the event,” added the Umesh.

The international participants expressed content about the event and said they were happy to be part of it and look forward for the future events.

“This is the first time we are in India. The accommodation was good, all the people were really friendly and we are really happy to be here,” said the Iranian team, who won the first and second places in international category.

Tourism Minister Kadakmpally Surendran and Minister of Ports Kadannappally Ramachandran were also participated in the valedictory function held on the concluding day. Kadannappally Ramachandran distributed the prizes to the Winners.

The first international MTB Kerala was held at Thenmala in Kollam in 2012. The next editions were held at Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram, Priyadarshini Tea Estate in Wayanad, and Kottoor in Thiruvananthapuram respectively. MTB Kerala 2018 is expected to give a fillip to the Wayanad district in the adventure tourism sector.
