Qatar Airways launches direct flight to Mombasa

Qatar Airways has launched direct flights to Mombasa city. The flights will be operated with an Airbus A320, with 12 business class and 120 economy class seats, with a flight time of just over six hours.

The inaugural flight, which features 12 Business Class seats and 120 seats in Economy Class and 150 visitors on board, touched Mombasa at 8:40 am. “The direct flight is not only an endorsement of the destination, but a vote of confidence on the Kenyan coast that has suffered in number of international arrivals. This is good news for the sector and together with the private sector, KTB will look into ways of partnering with Qatar Airways as well as other aircrafts to increase passenger numbers into the route,” said Kenya Tourism Board Chief executive officer Dr Betty Radier.

Qatar Airways will be making four scheduled weekly flights to Mombasa, bringing about 600 visitors to the region on a weekly basis. At present, Mombasa is receiving at least 9 charter flights every week, bringing tourists from across the world.

“We should all work closely together to expand complementary transport links and connectivity. This will make destination Mombasa and our region more attractive as both a tourist and investment destination,” tweeted Mombasa Trade, Tourism and Investment executive Fawz Rashid.
