Oberoi Udaivilas in Fodor’s Most Incredible Hotels in the World

Fodor’s Travel, the leading name in travel recommendations for over 80 years, has revived Fodor’s Finest: The 100 Most Incredible Hotels in the World, its definitive list of the best hotels in the world. And, the Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur, the only Indian hotel in the list, finds its place in the Fodor’s finest lists’ Best in Asia category.

“The Oberoi Udaivilas is heartbreakingly beautiful and truly one of the most stunning properties in the world. The magic begins before you even arrive, as you drive up to a dock on stunning Lake Pichola in Rajasthan. There, guests abandon their luggage to board a wooden boat as refreshments are served and musicians play. As the sun sets on Lake Pichola, the hotel comes into view—a sand-colored palace full of domes and arches on an expansive green property. As you disembark, you’re whisked to the entryway, where an enormous Seussian garden welcomes you to a vast, exquisite palace. The hotel is full of design surprises, like checkered pools, clawfoot bathtubs, and gilded domes. While the hotel is large, it’s far from impersonal—in fact, it’s the exact opposite, with individually-decorated rooms filled with local antiques and textiles, and generous, smiling staff who remember the way you like your coffee in the morning. It’s hard not to fall in love here—with the hotel, with India, and with life in general,” notes the Fodor’s list.

Re-emerging after a four-year hiatus, the exclusive list differs from other “best hotel” lists by consisting entirely of Fodor’s Travel editors’ and hotel writers’ personal picks, and featuring a wide range of hotel properties – not only high-priced or trendy locations. Editors made a particularly special effort to consider affordability when compiling the list.

“Travelers increasingly seek unique, memorable experiences when traveling – and that includes the hotels they choose to stay in,” said Jeremy Tarr, Editorial Director of Fodors.com. “The 100 properties on this list are certainly some of the best hotels in the world – but they’re also some of the dreamiest, most swoon-worthy, and sometimes, most unusual this world has to offer. Ultimately, each and every one is entirely glorious and utterly memorable,” said Jeremy.
