Kannur airport to start commercial operations on 9th December 2018

Kannur International Airport will start its commercial operations on 9th December 2018. The inauguration date is announced after the airport has received the aerodrome licence to start commercial flight operations from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday, 4th October 2018.

The mandatory licence needed for the airport, was handed over to Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) in New Delhi on Thursday.

“We have received the aerodrome license from the DGCA and thus overcome all hurdles to commence flight operations,” said V Thulasidas, KIAL Managing Director

The only formality left for the flight operations was the publication of details of regulations, procedures, and other information pertinent to the operation of aircraft as mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), the KIAL managing director said.

Earlier, 11 international and 6 domestic airlines have agreed to operate from the Airport.

Currently the length of the runway is 3,050 meters; it will be extended to 4,000 meters. The works for the same is in progress. The airport, which spread on 2,300 acres, has all the modern facilities and amenities. The area of the terminal building is 97,000 square meters. Works of the cargo complex in 1.05 lakhs square feet area is in progress.

There will be 24 check-in counters in the airport. Self-baggage drop counters and self-check-in counters are also ready. There will be 32 immigration counters, 4 e-visa counters and 16 customs counters in the airport.

6 aero-bridges have been ready to operate. The airport has facilities to land big body flights like Boeing 777; 20 flights can be parked at the same time.

Vehicle parking facilities also been arranged in the premises of the airport. 700 cars, 200 taxis and 25 buses can park at the same time in the parking area.
