Rajasthan bags three National Tourism Awards for 2016-17

Rajasthan, famous for its historical tourism destinations, bagged three national awards this year during the National Tourism Awards 2016-17. It was announced at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on the occasion of the National Tourism Day.

Rajasthan won the sought after top position in the categories of Best Film Promotion Friendly State and Use of Information technology, Social media, and website. Meanwhile, the state shared the award for Comprehensive Development of Tourism with Goa.

Kuldeep Ranka, the Principal Secretary of Rajasthan tourism department, Pradeep Kumar, Director of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) and Punita Singh, joint Director, have received the award for Rajasthan from the Union Tourism Minister, KJ Alphons.

The function was organized by the Union Tourism Ministry, which felicitated the people and places responsible for the country’s substantial growth in the tourism industry. The criteria for the awards included tourist footfall, the initiative of the state government and policies taken to make the state tourist friendly.

Rajasthan has an important role in the growth story of India in the tourism sector. It has been attracting millions of domestic and global tourists every year. Apart from the prestigious tourism awards, the state also becomes victorious in two categories of hotels. While Hotel Samode Haveli near Jaipur won the best heritage hotel award, the Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur was awarded the best hotel in the five-star deluxe hotel category.
