Rs 411 cr allocated for conservation of protected monuments in 2018-19

An amount of Rs 41,127.86 lakh (Rs 411.27 crore) was allocated for conservation of 3,687 protected monuments during 2018-19 under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), informed  Minister of State for Culture, Mahesh Sharma.

“The conservation work on protected monuments of National importance in the country, under ASI, is attended regularly as per the requirements of different sites and availability of resources and they are in a fairly good state of preservation. Similarly museums are also maintained properly,” the minister said. ASI has already formulated comprehensive conservation policy for conservation of protected monuments, the details of which are available on ASI website www.asi.nic.in.

“The protected monuments are kept in good condition. The public amenities are up-graded as per needs. All such features acts as attraction to the tourists for visit to heritage monuments in the country,” he said.

The details of funds allocated and expenditure incurred for conservation of protected monuments, allocation for the current financial year:

In Uttar Pradesh, which has 743 monuments under three circles, Agra, Lucknow and Sarnath received Rs 800 lakh, Rs 650 lakh and Rs 225 lakh respectively.

Maharashtra, which has 286 monuments received Rs 550 lakh, Rs 850 lakh and Rs 530 lakh for Aurangabad, Mumbai and Nagpur circles respectively. With 506 monuments, Karnataka’s three circles namely Bangalore, Mini Circle Hampi and Dharwad circles received Rs 950 lakh, Rs 650 lakh and Rs 600 lakh respectively. Madhya Pradesh, which has a total of 292 monuments received Rs 750 lakh for its Bhopal Circle whereas Odisha with its 79 monuments received Rs 550 lakh for its Bhubaneswar circle.

West Bengal, with 136 monuments and Sikkim with 3 monuments received Rs 751.18 lakh. Similarly, with 413 monuments Tamil Nadu and Puducherry with its 7 monuments received Rs 500 lakh. Punjab, with 33 monuments and Haryana with 91 monuments received Rs 425 lakh whereas Himachal Pradesh, with its 40 monuments received Rs 150 lakh.

Rudrapur, Uttarakhand

With 111 monuments under the Delhi Circle and 63 monuments under the Delhi Mini Circle, Delhi received Rs Rs 1883.65 lakh and Rs 600 lakh respectively. Goa, with 21 monuments under Goa Circle received Rs 240 lakh whereas Assam, with 55 monuments under Guwahati Circle and a single monument in Manipur, received Rs 300 lakh. Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh with 8, 1, 4, 8 and 3 respectively received Rs 100 lakh. Rajasthan, with 162 monuments received Rs 655 lakh and Andhra Pradesh, with 129 monuments received Rs 650 lakh and Telangana with 8 monuments received Rs 350 lakh.

Bihar (70 monuments), Kerala (28 monuments), Uttarakhand (42 monuments), Chhattisgarh (47 monuments) received Rs 250 lakh, Rs 350 lakh, Rs 70 lakh, and Rs 175 lakh respectively. With 56 monuments in Srinagar Circle and 11 in Mini Circle Leh, Jammu and Kashmir received Rs 250 lakh and Rs 55 lakh for the respective circles.

Akshardham Temple, Gujarat

Gujarat’s Vadodara circle with 203 monuments and 12 monuments of Daman and Diu received Rs 950 lakh. Jharkhand’s Ranchi circle with 13 monuments received Rs 150 crore. Other allocations for areas such as ChemicalPreservation (All India), Horticultural Activity (All India), and D G Headquarters Office received Rs 582 lakh, Rs 5300 lakh and 19016 lakh respectively. As a reserve, the ministry has allocated Rs 289.68 lakh. As a total, for 3687 monuments under different circles, the ministry has allocated Rs 41127.86 lakh.
