Master plan for Kovalam on cards

The Kerala Tourism department is preparing a master plan for the comprehensive development of Kovalam. The tourism minister, Kadakampally Surendran has informed that necessary infrastructure facilities will be set up at Kovalam before the next tourism season.

The new facilities include toilets, parking facility, waste management system, safety measures and street lighting at a cost of Rs 24 lakh. The department has already spent for lighting facilities. Rs 70 lakh was sanctioned for the renovation of the footpath.

The government is taking necessary steps to develop various tourist destinations in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram. Blueprint for the heritage street project at Chalai is being prepared. The government has called for Expression of interest for the PPP model development of Veli tourist village, the construction of which is expected to start this year.  Madavoorpara is also witnessing a strong change and is all geared for a big tourism project. The Akkulam tourist village will also be renovated.

The minister has inaugurated the renovation work of the craft village at Vellar, which is expected to attract travellers to Kovalam. The craft village at Vellar will have facilities including museum, light and sound show, amphi theatre, children park, food court and art gallery.
