Chief Minister treks to promote tourism

Many state governments and tourism departments’ try unique ways to promote tourism. However, in an exciting way to promote a route as a destination for tourists, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma embarked on a 9km trek on Tuesday from Chandigre village in West Garo Hills to Daribokgre village on the foothills of Nokrek in East Garo Hills. According to a statement issued by chief minister’s office, the CM had asked the officials to mark the trekking course from the foothills of Nokrek and design plans for promoting and marketing the destination to entice tourists.

Conrad had interaction with the villagers during the trip and asked them to begin conservations plans and actions at the site. He recommended for a ban on carrying plastic bottles while trekking and requested the localites to provide fresh drinking water for the tourists. He even urged the villagers to safeguard the nature and the Nokrek biosphere reserve and to make sure that the tourists don’t litter these sites. He was accompanied by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, Dadenggre sub-divisional officer (civil) Swapnil Tembe, West Garo Hills Superintendent of police Raghuvendra Kumar and other officials.
