Tourism department to implement MIS to track development of projects

Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department is planning to implement a Management Information System (MIS) in order to keep an eye on the speed and real-time development of progressing works. This is an initiative by the tourism department to speed up the various ongoing projects under the Government of India and state government schemes. As per reports, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been given the task to develop a Programme Monitoring and Evaluation Software with some exclusive features.

Around 50 officials in various departments of the tourism department would be given separate login id and passwords so that they can enter the progress report by 7th of every month. The information entered by the officers would then be processed and evaluated for review by senior officers of the department and then submitted to the Tourism Minister for final assessment of progress. This system will also have option for MIS to rank tourism development authorities, directorates, and real time data on the number of tourist visiting various regions as well as examine the development of projects.

“The tourism department in consultation with information department is working on developing unique software to check the pace and progress of its development projects. It will help us in making the existing system more transparent and effective and help us in meeting our development goals in time,” said Tourism Department Secretary Rigzin Samphel. The project is expected by be launched by the end of July.
