Indian Railways offers 8-day luxury trip on Maharaja Express

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is offering an 8-day trip on Maharaja Express. The trip, named ‘The Indian Splendour’, is offered at a starting price of USD 5,980. Passengers availing this trip will be visiting nine Indian cities. Indian and foreigners tourists can avail this package.

The trip, which will start from October 2018 to April 2019, will take you to  Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Balasinor, and Mumbai.

With an aim to attract more passengers, the Railways have decided to slash the tariff of its luxury trains. Haulage charges for royal trains such as the Palace on Wheels, Maharaja Express, Deccan Odyssey, Royal Orient and Golden Chariot have been reduced by up to 50 per cent. This came after revenue from the Palace on Wheels and Royal Rajasthan trains dropped by at least 24 per cent and 63 per cent, respectively this year.

Besides tariff cut, the Railways also decided to make luxury salons, a legacy of the British railway tradition or inspection coaches available for private individuals as well. These salons were usually used by India’s President, Prime Minister and high-ranking railway officials. Tourists will now be able to book these two-bedroom carriages with an onboard attached, private lounge, kitchen, and bathroom.
