Kailash Mansarovar Yatra: Online registration commences

The online reservation for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, organised by Ministry of External Affairs, has commenced. The last date for submitting applications online is March 23. Every year the ministry conducts the much looked after Kailash Mansarovar yatra during June to September through two different routes – Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand), and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim).

Kailash Manasarovar Yatra (KMY), known for its religious value and cultural significance, is undertaken by hundreds of people every year. Holding significance for Hindus as the abode of Lord Shiva, it holds religious importance also for Jains and Buddhists. It is open to eligible Indian citizens, holding valid Indian passports.

The eligible candidate should possess an Indian passport valid for minimum 6 months as on 1st September of the current year and aged between 18 and 70 years as on 01 January of the current year. The candidates should be physically and mentally fit for the yatra and possess a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or less. Those who suffer from medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, epilepsy, etc are also not eligible for the yatra.

The selected applicants have to undergo and qualify specified medical examinations conducted by the Delhi Heart and Lung Institute, and the ITBP Base Hospital in New Delhi for high altitude endurance.

The applicants are required to indicate their choice for both the routes in the order of their preferences. And select a place as End-Point to terminate their Yatra on return leg:  (i) Route-1 (Lipulekh): Dharchula or Delhi and (ii) Route-2 (NathuLa): Gangtok or Delhi.

The yatris will be selected and assigned to different routes and batches by the Ministry of External Affairs through a fair computer-generated, random, gender-balanced selection process. At the application stage, a group of two persons may give the option to travel together in the same batch. Efforts will be made to accommodate such requests as far as possible, subject to eligibility conditions of each applicant. Application should be completed on-line for each applicant.

“Selected applicants would be informed through automated messages to their registered email id/mobile number after the computerized draw of lots. Status updates may also be accessed through IVRS helpline 011-24300655,” says the website dedicated for the yatra.
