J&K posts Gulmarg Avalanche advisory
The official twitter handle of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism has set out an avalanche risk today. “Considerable avalanche risk today due to periods of strong Southerly winds overnight producing slab on North aspects. Below treeline is moderate but closer to treeline elevation where small avalanches may be triggered,” reads the J&K tweet.
The meteorological department has predicted moderate to heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir during the next couple of days, while a high-danger avalanche warning has been issued for parts of the state.
A high-danger avalanche warning has been issued by Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) for Tangmarg-Gulmarg sector in north Kashmir, medium-danger avalanche warning for Srinagar-Jammu national highway and a low to medium danger warning for higher reaches of other parts of the state.
Due to slippery road conditions and fresh snowfall at the Jawahar tunnel and other areas, the highway has been closed. The traffic authorities have stopped vehicular movement at the Nagrota check post in Jammu and Qazigun.
